Interview with Glen Tyson
Osage County Highway Department
Lyndon, Kansas
June 27, 2001
When Glen Tyson of the Osage Highway Department saw a demonstration of an Elite II - 8500 Paver early in the year 2000, he knew he had to bid on one. Even after the bids came in and the LeeBoy wasn’t one of the lowest, Osage bought it anyway. Tyson explains, "For our application, the features on the LeeBoy was well worth the extra money. It fulfills our needs better than the competitors."
Having spent 30 years with Osage County, Tyson knows about their road maintenance. Before the LeeBoy, they were patching roads by hand. Now with the Elite II - 8500 Paver, they patch quickly and easily. As Tyson puts it, "The paver is fairly easy to use. We’ve felt it’s even saved us materials, as well as time, by stretching a load of patching materials further. We are saving money by being able to distribute asphalt only where it is needed with this paver."
Tyson speaks highly of the training they received. "My crew had never been around or used a paver, but after getting the fundamentals through training, they’ve done a good job with the paver." Tyson enjoyed working with his LeeBoy dealer, Bob Mays of Halco Inc. in Kansas City. Halco is quick to provide service when he needs it.
