Walter's Paving

Interview with Charles Walters

Equipment Manager

Walters Paving and Construction

Liberty, South Carolina

November 11, 2002

“Sold on LeeBoy”

LeeBoy pavers and equipment are known for their ability to produce a high-quality surface for roads, parking lots, you name it and ease of use. Charles Walters of Walters Paving and Construction in Liberty, South Carolina, says they didn’t need any training to put their 7000 paver to work right away. However, Elaine Stephens spent a day showing his 3-man crew how to use all the features of the 7000.

Walters says he paves “anything—parking lots, roads, but it’s mostly church parking lots.” He especially likes his 7000 because it “cuts down on hand work.” When Walters was asked to elaborate on the type of hand work he no longer has to do, he replies, “For starting, the paver fills its own plates. At stopping, it stops cleaner so we don’t’ have to shovel material back into the machine. And it’s easier to adjust the cut-off plates.”

Walters emphasized two features of the 7000 that were important to getting his jobs done quickly and easily—the adjustable hydraulic screed extensions and the under auger cut-off plates. The adjustable hydraulic screen extensions enable Walters to adjust beyond the main screed for a seamless mat up to 13 feet. The under auger cut-off plates enable his operators to stop material flow below the augers for clean stops and starts.

Mac Walters, Charles’ father, adds about LeeBoy, “[Charles] is sold on your equipment.”
