Graders Aren’t Just for Roads

When you’re responsible for putting down a level slab of concrete for a warehouse or big-box store, your best bet is a LeeBoy 635 Motor Grader with Laser Tracking Controls. Not only is the size right for a big-box in the 30,000 square foot range, but the laser system is essential for getting a level surface for the concrete. According to Tim Fosha, Shop Foreman with JD Construction, "Without the laser system, a man could not eyeball 30,000 square feet and get a level floor."

Before getting the 635 Motor Grader, JD Construction used the [standard] process for leveling floors: loader dumps dirt, crew uses shovels to grade, string lines set up, crew levels to strings, etc. This process could take 3 to 4 weeks on at 30,000 square foot building. Now JD Construction does the footings, sets forms, grades by machine, and then pours concrete. Using the LeeBoy 635 with the Laser Tracking Controls, the process becomes a 3 to 4 day job.

When asked the most important feature of the LeeBoy grader, Fosha says it the size. "If you had a larger grader inside a 30,000 square foot building, you can’t move around with all the other things going on," he adds. "LeeBoy is not the only company that makes a grader that size, but they were the only one that made one and our dealer had it available when we needed it."
